Yesterday afternoon and into the evening I was online looking at our local Humane Society's website as well as our local animal rescue shelter where no animals are killed, it's called Pet Refuge. I sat here and just cried myself silly. I donated $20 to each organization, I know it is not enough, BUT I also know that every little bit helps. These two pictures are the pets of the week at our local Pet Refuge, I pray that someone will adopt them. I am really seriously thinking about it with Adeline the kitty, isn't she cute?
Anyway I would like to bring something to your attention how important your local Humane Society and your local animal rescue shelter that does not kill the animals but adopts them out, if you have one of those in your area that is.
These organizations survive on pretty much nothing, you don't have to just donate money to them, they can use just about anything and everything you could think of for animals, and maybe even an hour out of your day if at all possible.
For instance our local Pet Refuge will take aluminum cans, old towels and blankets for bedding, toys, cat litter, soft treats for training dogs, food, etc. And these items do not have to be name brand either. I know money is tight right now, but like I said you don't have to donate money and I am sure you can find some old towels or blankets around you don't need or use, don't put them in that garage sale, give them to an animal who can really use them.
Some local rescue shelters even have a sponsorship program you could get involved in, and sponsor an animal until it is adopted. You can even become a foster fur mom or dad, and they will provide everything for the animal until it is adopted. Some of the animal rescue shelters will have what ours calls "Adopt A Pet Day" at a local business and you can go and adopt an animal or you can go and ask them what you can do to help out, even if you donate a blanket, you are helping an animal out.
The time you give a homeless cat or dog means so much to them and helps with their transition from losing their original home. The difference in their lives comes from you! Please I urge you to find out how you can help your local Humane Society or rescue shelter, and maybe make a difference in one animals life.
You can click below to find out what is in your area as far as a local animal rescue shelter or your local Humane Society, please give a gift to an animal in need this year and maybe even save an animals life, thank you so very much. We can make a difference, if we make an effort to do so.

That's an awesome post! My Mommie says at the shelter she helps at, there are cats who have lived there for years. All the cats are so grateful for even the smallest kindness and bit of attention. They can always use paper towels, bath towels, litter, and especially canned food which is a special treat for the cats.
Yes Daisy you are right. They have cats at our shelter that are now the office cats, they have been there so long and it is so very sad it makes me cry. And yes these shelters can use anything that you can possibly spare, even if it is just a roll of paper towel, you would be surprised how much that roll could help them. Thank you Daisy and you be a good girl today okay?

What a great post! I Sponsor Pets at No-Kill shelters, and advocate people adopting from shelters. All the proceeds from my BlogHer and Google ads, as well as the profits from Gandalf and Grayson's Calendar all go towards Sponsoring cats or helping pets with special needs. I try not to look at my local shelter because it is very difficult to overcome the urge to adopt them all!, so I tend to Sponsor through other shelters through PetFinder.com.
That is awesome Barb. I feel the same way, I want to take them all home, it is very hard.
I am not as active as Daisy's mom or Barb, but we did get all of our beasts (3) from shelters (including my extraordinarily ungrateful cats who refuse to listen to me whine :)).
I could not bring myself to buy a pet, when there are so many that are looking for a happy (or as Daisy calls it, forever) home.
Since I currently don't have the time or money to donate to a shelter (having just started my own business), I will provide what little support I can by linking to your post. I wish I could do more.
Anne, linking to my post is doing something, that is awesome. Thank you so much honey and I hope you are feeling a little better. I hope you have a wonderful day today.
Oh and you have two awards on my blog waiting for you.
Jodi
It's so great of you to donate! What a wonderful & kind person you are!
Hugs & Snugs
Eduardo the Snuggle Puggle
Thank you so much Eduardo, we have to do our best to take care of the fur animals. You be a good boy today.

Bless you for posting about this Jodi. There is so much need for donations and foster parents for these poor animals that are homeless through no fault of their own. And like you said any little bit will help keep these shelters going, as they operate for the most part out of their pockets and through donations. It's a never ending job, but every pet that finds a new home makes it all worth while.
Well said Jodi! My theory on people is easy;Animal lovers=good people! We also try to do our part to help out our furry friends. When you look into their sweet & soulful eyes you can see that they are so appreciative of any kind gesture.
What a fabulous post Jodi! I am going to be posting something similar on my blog too because this is so near and dear to my heart. My mom and I started BeadedTail as a way to raise money for causes that support no kill shelters and education about spaying and neutering. So far we have donated at least 100% (usually more) of the sales of our jewelry and it's only a drop in the bucket to what is needed but every little bit helps. Daisy and Barb had great ideas on other ways to help too. Great post!
I love this post and your site! I am an animal lover/rescuer and am motivated to give some to the charity you mentioned. Loved stopping by.
At one time my mom had 12 cats she rescued from the street. Sadly, some of them were too weak to survive, but atleast 8 cats are now healthy and happy. I have always had cats from shelters and I donate quality pet food on a regular basis.
I'm sure our permanent resident cat Sammy is secretly very happy to have found a home with us...although he's much too proud to admit it ☺
I have a page on my blog with a link at the top, "Help an Animal"....here's the link. It's a great site...feel free to steal the link! http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/
This is a great post! I didn't realize shelters would take used towels so that's good to know. I'll be including this bit of inormation in my "What I Learned This Week" on Friday at www.zemeks.blogspot.com with a link back to this.
I give money to Caroline's Kids Pet Rescue each month (a no-kill cat sanctuary) and we got our first cat from a shelter, Spunky was born a stray that I took in.
I hope that cat gets adopted--it's so cute!
This is an outstanding post. I have given money but DUH...never thought about things such as toys.
Oh my and you are so right they could probably use so many of these items.
Oh it's so sad that so many animals go without and are left deserted to fend for them selves.
We are going to adopt a new kitty very soon. And we always get one that has been abandoned.
Also thank you so much Jodi for stopping by to visit.
Your visits have been a joy. I hope to have my satellite issues resolved soon so that I can spend more time visiting!!
God bless you for this post:-)
